Furansu Nikki was the most memorable of this week's manga. It seems so strange to have a Japanese manga about the perspective of French girls on Japanese otaku culture. Mangakko was very short; it's basically a single joke. Junai Junkies would be for people who want lots of sex and nudity in their manga.

My opinion:
Furansu Nikki - If you're interested in seeing people from other countries interested in manga, then you should check out this manga.
Junai Junkies - If you're in the mood for an ecchi comedy, then you should check out this manga instead.
Mangakko - On the other hand, if you're in the mood for reading something short (a one-shot, perhaps) about, you guessed it - manga again, then you should go for this manga instead.

When Fujiwara Motomu was first introduced to live rock music, he decided it was amazing and he wanted to be a part of it! He ran into a band member from "Blue Bears" (the band he first saw live) at a convenience store, and begged the band member to let him join. The band member told him that if he could get the top rank at the Japan Academy of Music (J.A.M.), he could join them.

Fujiwara (nicknamed Fuji Cue) immediately started practicing guitar, and somehow managed to pass the entrance exam for the J.A.M.. At the entrance ceremony, he found that he would be paired with another student, and they would be required to give a live performance at the Welcome Convention. His partner, Hoshikawa Uta, is an incredibly talented girl, who suffers from crippling stage fright. Will they make it through their live performance, and will he be able to achieve his dream of getting to the top?

Ten years ago, a black shape appeared in the sky and destroyed the city below. There is an undeniable attraction between these two friends, but Kagerou is hesitant to confess his feelings because he feels that he is too weak to protect her.

One day, the structure acts again, sending down strange balls that eat people and transform them into monsters. Kagerou and Momiji's encounter that day changes them forever. Kagerou is taken into an organization that explains to him that he is now an 'ember,' and Momiji is a non-human "dross," useful only as experimental material. Kagerou can't accept this, though, and is determined to do anything in his power to protect the girl he loves.

Mikado Shuuji is just an ordinary guy, but he has a very unusual knife that he uses for cooking. It's actually a famous short sword that marks its owner as the head of the ninjas, and now there are hot ninja girls coming after him to take it back. Hinamori Botan is one of those hot ninja girls, but her efforts to attack Shuuji mostly end up inadvertently stripping her. After she concludes that she does not want to steal the sword and kill Shuuji, she ends up deciding to serve him as a ninja instead. Now she must protect him from the other ninja that come to claim his sword and his life!

There were some good ones this week. In Hiniru, I am really curious what's going to happen with the central couple, but it seems like it can only have a sad ending with that set up. Fuji Cue's Music was pretty funny, and it seems interesting to see how Motomu and Uta make their way through this unconventional school. Ninkoi is the one for fans of ecchi and awkward (often accidental) nude situations.

Himejou is very unique. It'll tickle the fancy of people that might like Japanese history, especially regarding the war period and the Japanese castles.

Kami no Kuni has stunning artwork and looks to have a very expansive world ahead of it.

Ane Kurabe is a new take on a harem manga. The girls really want the boy.

My opinion:
Ane Kurabe - If you're into harems and ecchi manga, then you might as well check out this manga.
Fuji Cue!!! Fuji Cue’s Music!! - I'm a bit interested to see how and if the boy is able to perform well and join the band. If you're into musical manga, then you should take a look at this.
Himejijou Living Dead - On the other hand, if you're into horror, and historical settings, then this may be more your cup of tea.
Hiniru - If you like sci-fi and a romance story, then this manga may appeal to you.
Kami no Kuni - This is from the mangaka of Defense Devil, so if you like action in historical settings, then this would definitely appeal to you.
Ninkoi - Karenbo Hichou - If the combination of hot ninja girls + action + ecchi situations sounds like your kind of manga, then you should take a look at this manga.

Third in the ranking of the "Assassin Name" families of the underground assassin community, the "Zerozaki Ichizoku" is infamous for their indomitable family unity. Each of its members exhibit combat prowess when it comes to saving one of their kin. Zerozaki Kishishiki is one member of the Zerozaki family, and he utilizes a bat covered in nails to brutally murder his targets. He calls his weapon the "Praise of Folly (Seamless Bias)." His next target was supposed to be an ordinary target, just another day for him. He faces a problem when he discovers that he has become prey to a formidable enemy.

Revenge Game is another one of those manga with teenagers who are forced into a game where they might die. In this case, though, there are only five of them, so I don't imagine the story can continue much further after the first 6 chapters. Hatarakanai Futari was pretty funny, and I really appreciated seeing a comedy about a nice brother-sister relationship that isn't sexualized. Lover's High was kind of cute, seeing the main character getting irritated by the various couples antics, but I'm not sure how much mileage the manga can get from that premise.


My opinion:
EXP:0 - If you like fantasy, demon lords and heroes, then you should check this manga out.
Hatarakanai Futari - On the other hand, if you like more slice-of-life type manga with a mix of video games, then this manga is the one for you.
Hi-Fi Cluster - Another manga debuts in Shounen Jump, and this one has an interesting take on abilities. It reminds me of the Matrix movie and how Neo was able to get any ability by downloading the knowledge into his brain... If you like that movie, then maybe you should check this out as well.
Lover's High - If you like a little romance thrown in with the slice of life, then you should take a look at this manga.
Revenge Game - However, if you're more into the survival game type manga, then you should check out this one instead. Although the genre isn't new, this manga is short so there shouldn't be any dragged out scenes.
Sporting Salt - If you like sports manga like Prince of Tennis, then you should definitely check out this manga. Plus, the first two chapters are already scanlated.
Zerozaki Kishishiki no Ningen Knock - If you are a fan of the stories from NisiOisiN, then this another must-read.

Ever since Chizuru survived the air raid in Tokyo that killed her mother and older brother, she has been unable to speak and her memories are confused. However, once they began their journey to Nochiu, she has had the same dream every night. She's in a forest, and someone is calling her name. When she meets Shizuko, she is surprised to realize that Shizuko is the one calling to her in her dreams. Why is Shizuko calling for her, and what are the secrets she seems meant to learn?

Sagara Soma is a hardcore gamer, who spends basically all of his time playing or thinking about games. Since he was a child, he's thought of how great it would be to really live in a game world. One day, when he breaks a promise to his cousin Maki in order to play video games, his wish comes true. "New Communicate Online," also known as "Neko-Mimi-Neko," is the game he was playing at the time. Neko-Mimi-Neko is well known for its trick quests, occasional unfairly high level enemies, and many bugs, all of which combine to make players die over and over again. Now that Soma seems to literally be a starting character in the game world, will he re-spawn after death, or actually die? Luckily, he knows just about everything there is to know about the world of Neko-Mimi-Neko, so he may be able to make the unfairness in the game work to his advantage!

Agetarou works at his family's tonkatsu restaurant in Shibuya, but he's not very excited by the work. One day, he takes a delivery to the staff of a night club, and the worker lets him in to enjoy the club for a while. Agetarou finds that he loves the club, with its relaxed people and cute girls, all enjoying the music supplied by the DJ. He continues going to the club, until the night comes when the guest American DJ Big Master Fly puts on a show. Agetarou is inspired by Big Master Fly, and realizes that the groove of being a DJ is very similar to the groove of being a tonkatsu chef. Now Agetarou is determined to master both disciplines, though he is most excited to become a DJ!

Eshikarunte is my favorite of this week. The art is really pretty, and I'm enjoying the story so far. I think it will involve a lot of Ainu religion/mythology, which I'm not familiar with at all. Even the title is from an Ainu word "Eshikarun", which means to remember (according to an online dictionary--I don't actually know Ainu language). "Kono Sekai..." is another story about being stuck in a video game world, and it seems to spend a lot of time detailing the mechanics of the game world so far. Tonkatsu DJ Agetarou is the ridiculous, silly comedy of the week, and it was pretty funny. I'm not sure I buy the idea that working in a tonkatsu restaurant is basically like being a DJ, but I don't think the manga was meant to be all that realistic :).

My opinion:
Eshikarun - If you're into mysteries and mythology, then this would be a nice mix between the two. I'd probably be most interested in reading this manga of the three.
Kono Sekai ga Game dato Ore dake ga Shitteiru - If you like manga about people suddenly living in a video game or are a fan of video game manga, then this is the manga for you.
Tonkatsu DJ Agetarou - On the other hand, if you're in the mood for something a little more silly and like reading about a chef wanting to be a DJ, then this would be more up your alley.

At the hospital, as she recovered, she suddenly realized that even if she didn't fight back, her classmates were probably going to eventually kill her.

From this realization, she soon decided that the only path left was for her to take revenge. Her new plan included the students who bullied her, those who stood aside and laughed, and those who did nothing to make it stop. She began gathering notes on her classmates, planning exactly what she could do to make each of their lives collapse. While some of the students really seemed to deserve their fate, her plan also included classmates that she used to count as close friends...

Due to an accident, these five criminals managed to escape and attach themselves to five different girls that were nearby. The one responsible for the banishment of these five criminals now must detach them from the girls by mouth-to-mouth release.

My favorite this week was Fukushuu Kyoushitsu. Ayana's plans are so carefully detailed to each of her targets. It's not always just violence, either (though some people do die). She's very good at finding the weak spot in their lives that she can use to ruin them. I get the feeling that this situation is not going to end particularly well for Ayana, but I think she knew that from the beginning, anyway. Mazoku Jikan is fun for anyone looking for an absurd-humor 4koma. Bijou Senka was a bit weird to me (also, I'm not really a fan of handwritten manga).

My opinion:
Bijou Senka - If you're more into the slice of genre with some ecchiness thrown in, then you should check out this manga.
Fukushuu Kyoushitsu - If you're in the mood for horror and revenge, then this may be the manga for you. I'm probably most interested in this manga of the bunch.
Kiss x Death - If you're a fan of Mx0, Pretty face and other manga from this Shounen Jump vet, which once again features ecchiness in school settings, then you should take a look at this manga instead.
Makai kara Kita Maid-san - If you like comedies, and maids from hell, then you should check this manga out.
Mazoku no Jikan - This features another comedy manga, but now from the perspective of a demon king. If this sounds interesting, then you take a look at this manga.
Tansansuibu - If you're interested in music, then this may pique your interest...

This is a story of how an esper meets a girl in a small northern town. Tsubasa lives in a dying hot springs town, and he's a mostly friendless middle school delinquent. He actually has super powers, though he thinks of them more like embarrassing and useless powers. Sure, he can use his telekinetic abilities to brush his teeth while getting dressed, or read a book while drinking tea, but for the most part, it's easier just to do stuff with his hands.

One day, though, he hears the thoughts of a mute girl, Yuki, who is targeted for rape by other delinquents, due to her silence. He comes to her aid, and finds that to his surprise, he's able to manipulate her body to beat up her attackers! Unsurprisingly, she draws the conclusion that she is the one with super powers. Since Tsubasa's the only one who "knows her secret," their story together is just beginning!

My opinion:
Dagashi Kashi - If you're in the mood for comedy and sweets, then you should check out this manga.
Nami yo Kiite Kure - If you're interested in the world of radio, then this should pique your interest. If you are interested in seeing how she fares in the world of radio and the comedy that could occur, check this out.
Yuki ni Tsubasa - If you recognize the art, this manga is from the author of Saishuu Heiki Kanojo (SaiKano), and he brings us another intriguing story about a guy with powers who interacts with a mute girl. If you're interested in seeing the interactions between the two and like romantic dramas, then you should really read this manga.

16-year-old Takatsuki Yuuto has been lucky enough to already meet with success in the manga industry. After he wraps up his series, though, he's looking forward to moving away from manga and more fully experiencing high school life. Unfortunately, the day after he's supposedly done with manga, a favor to a fellow author ends up costing him one absence too many to pass his year at school.

Luckily, he has been offered a teaching position at a nearby manga school, though he will be teaching students that are above his age! The head of the school has agreed to help make his attendance problem vanish, since his grades were otherwise fine. Everything will work out, except that Yuuto does not get to leave the world of manga. To make things even more complicated, he has also run into the ghost of a manga author named Tennouji Akira, a young girl that only he can see, and she is now following him around! Will Yuuto be able to handle the new turns his life is taking?

Psycho Doctor Kai Kyousuke was a neat psychological drama. The first case mentioned actually ends up much more complicated than I expected. Rough Diamond was pretty good, but it kind of felt like they were cramming a little too much in with the ghost subplot. Nekota Biyori kind of reminded me of Garfield (though Nekota-san does not eat lasagna).

My opinion:
Nekota Biyori - If you like cat manga and slice of life, then this easy going manga may be for you.
Psycho Doctor Kai Kyousuke - On the other hand, this psychological drama may appeal to those wanting a little more seriousness in their manga and is only 4 volumes long.
Rough Diamond - Manga Gakkou e Youkoso - This manga appeals to me the most due to the comedy and although the subject of high school mangakas aren't new, this may turn out to be interesting to see how he gets stuck in the world of manga.
